Google’s artificial intelligence program has made an amazing breakthrough.
Pushing the boundaries of technology as we know it, the AI project AutoML has beaten its creators at their own game.
The project was unveiled in May, as it was revealed AutoML had been created to help human programmers at Google building AI machines.
They have now reported that the AI machines have build machine-learning software better, and faster than the humans were able to.
WIRED have reported Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s take on the new development, saying:
“Today these are handcrafted by machine learning scientists and literally only a few thousands of scientists around the world can do this. We want to enable hundreds of thousands of developers to be able to do it.”
Scientists have been working for years to allow robots to replicate human behaviors, and while the process has been slow, new discoveries like this show just how much potential these projects have.
Problems have been met in trying to simplify the complex decisions that go on in our brains every time we start to create something new.
Robots are still hindered when it comes planning as they can replicate a wrong function without having the nouse to realise their mistake.
This is where humans are still needed, but with their roles as overseers rather than doing the dirty work, this does free up a lot more time to be devoted to other new ideas.
Anyone who has watched ‘Blade Runner’ too many times might be worried at the news that computers are becoming more independent all the time, but it is a huge leap into the future for AI programs around the world.
Google are one of the leading bodies in the world striving to better technology in order to make the future possible even sooner. Pichai also commented on Google’s exciting AI discovery, hinting that they weren’t planning on keeping the technology to themselves, saying “We want to democratise this,”.
