A Serbian man is claiming to be the re-incarnation of Jesus Christ.
The man claiming to be Christ has collected his own flock of dedicated followers.
All religions have their supernatural elements, Christianity calls them their ‘mysteries’, which are believed to include transubstantiation, and the ‘incorruptibility’ of certain Saint’s earthly bodies.
Has Jesus Christ himself come back to save the world from peril? A group of Serbian country-folk seem to think he has.
His name is Vissarion, and while he bears a striking likeness to the pictures the Western world would usually associate with Jesus, do the similarities go any further than that.
Based in Petropavlovka, Serbia Vissarion has gained a following since his declaration in the 1990’s that he is the reincarnation of the Lord.
His followers call themselves Vissarionites, and they number around 5,000.
They have built a community around following the so-called deity and they live without money, abstain from drinking and smoking and live by a set of chaste moral rules.
He preaches to his congregation regularly, some of his topics include reincarnation (obviously), the apocalypse, and even the imminent flood that is coming to purge the Earth, save for his followers, similar to Moses’ famous weather warning.
Simon Reeve from the BBC was granted an exclusive interview with Vissarion, who usually shies away from the camera.
True to his 2,000 year old standards, he revealed:
“We have a school of noble maidens here. We’re preparing girls to become future wives, future brides for worthy men. She has to understand not to rise above the man, not to be proud of her independence but to be shy, inconspicuous and weak.”
When asked about the possibility that he might be duping his followers into believing a lie that has hoodwinked them, he said:
“Sad, what else can I feel? This is unavoidable. I’ll put down the basis that will change all humanity,”
