A Catholic Priest who is accused of raping and killing a child has been offered retirement by the Vatican.
Archbishop Anthony Apuron is at the center of over 100 lawsuits concerning rape and even murder of children.
The Vatican’s solution to the problem? Offer him an early retirement.
Apuron is thought to be the head of a pedophile ring which has abused hundreds of children, he is currently involved in the biggest investigation of a priest in the Vatican’s history.
Fellow priest Thomas Doyle commented on the uniqueness of the case, saying:
“It’s very, very rare, and the reason it’s rare is because the Vatican or the popes have protected the bishops.
They consider them to be the most important part of the church, so they protect them, no matter what they’ve done.
As a result, the bishops have gotten away with both sexually abusing children and promoting the sexual abuse of children by allowing priests, who they knew were abusive persons, to carry on repeat sexual abuse.”
RNS have reported how the priests were able to carry out the abuse after brainwashing their victims into believing that priests are capable of doing no wrong.
One of the victim William Payne’s parents have said how their son had “been instilled with the belief that clergy are never wrong, and that the clergy were like Jesus.”
Canonical trials are special cases that are carried out within the Vatican’s own court of law, reserved for only the most serious of cases.
As the Catholic Church continues to downplay the seriousness of such cases, the offering of retirement for the Archbishop is representative of their dismissal.
The code that the Vatican uses for the treatment of its priests that they wish to take out of the public eye is a life of ‘prayer and penance’.
In other words they get to live out the rest of their life away from public eye as to not draw any more attention to their crimes and in turn, the Catholic church.
