Trusting in authority truly is the most questionable personality trait.
People like to believe and trust in the rules and the laws that surround them.
But it is an unthinking desire to trust the ‘powers that be’ that lead to persecution and injustice in the world.
If you don’t question authority, you are inviting anyone who has witnessed you trustfulness to take advantage of you.
You pay taxes because you’re told you have to, you will go to prison otherwise. But what if the government decide to increase the price of taxes. If they doubled them, tripled them? At what point would you decide enough was enough.
Many people don’t have the desire to question authority and that is why in part we have ended up with the huge mis-distribution of wealth.
The tiny 1% rule over all of the rest of the people because at some point they saw an opportunity to take control and they took it.
Albert Einstein himself said “Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.”
When we let people think for us then we are inviting an abuse of trust. Not being able to question authority will lead you eventually backed up into a corner.
We need the quality of being able to question authority, constantly, the following are the main reasons why.
1.) It Can Cause Otherwise Good People to do Evil Things
2.) It Leads to the Idea That We Need to Give a Group of People Permission to Control Us
3.) Power Given to Authority Tends to Corrupt
4.) It Leads to An Ignorant and Apathetic Citizenry
Believing that some higher power has more of a right to your thoughts and freedom that you do will only lead to the corruption of society. Even people who consider themselves to have impeccable morals are easily turned when given the chance to seize power.
