Massive cocaine bust on French Coca-Cola plant.
Coca-Cola is the popular soft drink that has built its empire on one of the most illegal drugs in the world – cocaine.
Early recipes of the beverage included cocaine in various strengths, if you bought a bottle of coke between 1886 – 1929 you were ingesting unspecified amounts of the highly addictive drug.
But when the dangers of cocaine were realized, this particular ingredient was taken out and the drink was left squeaky clean, that is if you forget about sugar also being highly addictive and dangerous to health.
So the irony of a French Coca-Cola plant being the scene of a huge cocaine raid is very sweet indeed.
370 kg of pure cocaine was found at a Cola plant in Signes which is now at the center of a huge drug investigation. The load is thought to have street value of around $55 million.
Employees at the company have been ruled out as prosecutors search for who owns the massive stash.
Jean-Denis Malgras, regional president of Coca-Cola said:
“The first elements of the investigation have shown that employees are in no way involved,”
The recipe behind the most popular soft drink in the world is a closely guarded secret, but there is still speculation that coca leaf extract is used in the making, with all of the psychoactive compounds taken out, naturally.
Despite being highly illegal and carrying some of the highest penalties you can get for any crime, including death in some countries, drug smuggling is rife and the authorities don’t know how to stop it.
Ports and factories where large amounts of cargo like this Coca-Cola plant are easy targets for drug barons wishing to export huge amounts of drugs as a time in one go. No doubt the owner of this consignment got into a spot of bother when explaining to his boss where the produce had gone.
