Edward Snowden invents intelligent phone case to detect hacking.
Infamous whistleblower and former Central Intelligence Agency employee Edward Snowden has not given up on his quest for the truth, with his new invention that can tell if your mobile phone data is being compromised.
The special mobile phone case was designed to help people in a similar position to Snowden – activists and journalists who are constantly battling against the questionable morals of the government and the media.
The phone casing is designed to work in sync with the microchip inside the phone, and can tell whether is not the data is being seized from elsewhere.
Mobile phone hacking in the UK has been a major problem and led to the closure of one of the countries biggest newspapers after it was found to have hacked hundreds of celebrities’ phones and even the phone of a murder victim.
Only a small number of the phone cases have been produced at this time, but Snowden hopes that in the future they will be mass produced to offer everyone the protection that they deserve.
Blogger Andrew Huang has collaborated with Snowden on testing the device and has said:
“This work aims to give journalists the tools to know when their smartphones are tracking or disclosing their location when the devices are supposed to be in airplane mode.
Trusting a phone that has been hacked to go into airplane mode is like trusting a drunken person to judge if they are sober enough to drive.”
He also says that the phone case will need to be fitted with the help of an expert, as the technology is still in its infancy.
In the future will all phones comes fitted with such technology? It would be much easier if the government simply agreed to stop spying on us.
