Republican ex-senator pleads guilty to child sex trafficking charges.
How can corruption go this high up in the constitution without being flagged?
An ex-state senator has been revealed to be a child sex trafficker, after pleading guilty to charges.
Ralph Shortey, who works as a conservative Christian lawmaker used ‘family values’ as one of his sticking points during his successful bid for the Oklahoma State Senate.
He has now pleaded guilty to the soliciting of a 17-year old boy. He was forced to resign after charges were brought against him for child prostitution, prostitution within 1,000 feet of a church, and transporting a minor for prostitution or lewdness.
He has since admitted to child sex trafficking in the hope that the prosecution will drop some of the other charges against him:
“By making a deal, Shortey, 35, hopes to avoid being locked up for nearly the rest of his life. Still, he will be required to serve at least a 10-year prison term, the mandatory minimum time for child sex trafficking.”
His attorney said:
“Mr. Shortey feels this is a necessary step in putting this painful and humiliating ordeal behind him, for both himself, his family and for the state of Oklahoma,”
The extent of deception Mr. Shortey has demonstrated throughout his time as senator and since shows just how easy it is for some people to lie to both themselves, and the public.
To run a campaign based on ‘family values’ but at the same time know you have this dark, abhorrent secret say a lot about Mr. Shortey’s morals, and perhaps the type of person you need to be to run for a position of power.
Being able to lie excellently seems to be at the top of the requirement list.
It is reported that Shortey met the child on Craiglist, and requested sexual favors when the child had asked Shortey for money for ‘spring break’.
