Jehovah’s Witnesses in trouble for hiding child sex abuse information.
The Catholic Church have been widely publicized in their plight of child sex abuse scandals which have damaged the church’s reputation.
But something similar has been going on in the Jehovah’s Witness camp, too.
They are accused of refusing to hand over documents relating to child sex abuse in California, which is reportedly costing the church $4,000 a day and a staggering $2 million so far altogether, what have they got to hide?
“The ruling stems from a case in San Diego, where Osbaldo Padron sued the Jehovah’s Witnesses for failing to warn congregants that a child abuser was in their midst.
Padron, a former Jehovah’s Witness, was sexually abused as a child by an adult member of his congregation named Gonzalo Campos. Campos confessed to sexually abusing seven children.”
Reports from the court show that some Jehovah’s Witnesses were aware of Campos abusing the children, and in withholding documents they have aimed to protect him.
In organized religion is can be a very difficult situation to face when someone whom you have put your entire trust, and indeed salvation of your own life turns out to be depressingly human, and a failed human at that.
Similar events happened when the Catholic Church was revealed to be harboring pedophiles, people were unable to accept that these ‘holy men’ were in fact perverted criminals.
In a similar vein to the Catholic Church cover ups, the Jehovah’s Witness problems seem to have been going on for years also, “According to internal Watchtower documents, the organization has instructed congregation leaders, called elders, to keep child abuse secret from law enforcement as a matter of policy since at least 1989.”
Despite the sanction from the judge which have incurred fines of $4,000 per day, the church is still unwilling to give up the documents, showing to what lengths some people will go to protect abusers due to the brainwashing of religion.
