This University in Michigan is the first in the world to offer a course in weed studies.
They say that for a successful career you should study what you love, and if you love weed then now might be the time to go back to university.
The Medicinal Plant Chemistry undergraduate degree runs for 4 years and students can expect to learn how to extract all the very best parts from some of the worlds most pain-relieving plants.
Potential students who might be attracted to this course for the fun factor should be warned that the course involves plenty of studying and hard work.
Associate professor of chemistry Brandon Canfield who was responsible for starting the course said:
“Obviously, the programme is new and it might speak to a certain crowd. But, for a student to succeed, they’re going to have to be very dedicated and motivated. This is not an easy programme. It’s a really intense biology chemistry programme.”
While the students won’t be getting any tips on how to actually grow marijuana, they will certainly be studying its healing effects and learning how to get the best medicinal use out of it.
The university makes this clear in the blurb about the course on its website. It reads:
“The historical stigma associated with cannabis is quickly vanishing, and although there is a surge in businesses related to the marijuana economy, there is a major gap in educational opportunities available to prepare people for this field.”
Medicinal marijuana is now legal in over half of the U.S states and its popularity is ever growing. It won’t be long before marijuana is regarded just as real a painkiller as paracetamol or aspirin.
