Statism – a new religion for the modern world.
Organized religion, although a comfort to many people, has been responsible for its fair share of persecution and destruction in the short time that humans have been on the planet.
Since homo sapiens first learned to talk, we used this tool to divide ourselves, to make noteworthy the things that are different, and to cling to our own little factions to make ourselves feel safer.
While religious numbers have steadily declined in some (mainly Western) countries, the pull of religion is many parts of the world is still as strong as ever, and for many people unfortunately it is the only offering of hope and understanding in the world.
In the West however, we have been cured with the evils of a new, different religion.
It describes the way that the modern world has been shaped, and the scary way in which the governments of nearly every country have used their power to turn the people of the world against each other.
Nationality is a lottery which is decided at birth, there is no way you can change the country, or this history and the cultures that come with it no more than you can change what you had for dinner yesterday. The country you are born into becomes your badge, and this is being used in the most cynical way.
Most countries in the world have come to be run by a democracy, most people you ask would agree that this is the most fair system that has been thought up (as of yet) and many people are happy that their votes make a difference in making their lives better.
Statism is defined as the:
“Concentration of economic controls and planning in the hands of a highly centralized government often extending to government ownership of industry.”
Does this sound like it goes hand in hand with democracy?
