Serj Tankian has called for Armenia to stay away from deals with Monsanto.
The political activist and former System of A Down front-man called for Armenians to wake up and put a stop to Monsanto bringing their dangerous products into the country.
The Armenian-American was raising awareness of Monsanto and Valmont strengthening ties with the Armenian economy, after they recently took part in a conference aimed at strengthening the bond between economic relations between the two countries.
“The conference aimed to strengthen commercial ties between the United States and Armenia by connecting representatives from American and Armenian agribusinesses, and by giving American companies the opportunity to showcase the latest technological advances in the field.”
Conferences such as this show how eager Monsanto are in tightening their grip over the agro-chemical world, and their desire to have every farmer in the world using the GMO products and harmful pesticides, despite numerous health concerns connected to them.
Relations between countries that aim to create good business deals for the involved parties in a ‘I’ll scratch your back, you scratch mine’ kind of way usually go unnoticed by the general public, and for this reason it is important for Serj and people like him to use their platform to raise awareness.
“Armenia please please stay free and clear of Monsanto. There is ample proof that Monsanto’s sprays have poisoned our environment contributing drastically to dying off of bees,”
He also warned about the possible dangers of introducing highly chemical ingredients to delicate farming infrastructures that have worked perfectly fine for centuries. He said “thousands of years of agriculture and cultivation” are at risk if the agro-chemical giants get their way. He referred to Monsanto as ‘evil’ in the way they conduct their business, a title which has dogged the firm since the extent of their underhand exploits have been revealed.
